What is a literal translation?

Literal translation refers to translating each word literally and individually, not taking into account the grammar structure or context of the document. Literal translation is also known as word for word translation, and the effectiveness of literal translation is not as high as automatic or machine translators. It is often more useful when you need to build a terminology database or as a translation aid.
